A description of a place (José Miguel Maimó)

Last Christmas I visited the stadium of the Football Club Barcelona (Camp Nou) with my family. It is located in the center of Barcelona, in a neighborhood called Zona Universitària. I went by motorbike because my family from Barcelona lives a bit far.

Camp Nou is one of the biggest stadiums around the world, it has a capacity of 100.000 people aproximately. The truth is that I was surprised when I saw it. In the ticket office there were a lot of people, the tickets was very expensive (16€).

First of all I visited the changing rooms, they were very big, there were some Jacuzzis, a blackboard and some computers. Secondly I visited the football pitch (the area when footballers play football), it was spectacular because the dimensions were very large, there were some lamps to warm the grass. Thirdly I visited the museum, it was very big, there were a lot of trophies, emblems, esculptures and photos. I saw the six trophies that the team won last year. Finally I visited the stands.

Camp Nou is a fantastic tourist destination, I recommend you to visit it. On the one hand I liked it a lot because it is a very nice stadium but I am not a Barça supporter, for this reason I'd like to visit the stadium of the Real Mallorca, the ONO Estadi (the best team in the world, next year Mallorca will be in Champions League)

DESCRIPTION OF A PLACE (By Naika Mendívil.)

My teacher asked me to write a composition describing a place. Then I thought about describing a country, a city, or a town. But I couldn't find a place I really liked. Then I came about describing a place where I spend a lot of time every day. It is a place where I do lots of things. I am talking about my bedroom.

My bedroom isn’t very big but I love it. It is situated upstairs and in the side room no one sleeps. Three years ago I painted one of the walls of my room, now it is purple I think it is a beautiful colour and it relaxes me. My room has a beautiful balcony where in the afternoon the sun shines. It has got two chairs and a little table and I love to go there when I need to think about something. The balcony is in front of a beautiful big park and I like to observe what people do there.

In my bedroom I have got a lot of important things: my wardrobe is always full and my mum is always saying to me that I must tidy it. I have a shoemaker in my room and a mirror too. I need a mirror at all times. I have a bookshelf where I use to put all types of things, from books and photos to my jewels and even a radio.
Another important thing in my bedroom is my computer, I couldn’t live without it. I use it to chat with my friends, to search on the internet, to watch films and it has a TV incorporated so it is to useful to me. I can’t finish this composition without mentioning my bed. It is the most important thing in a bedroom, but for me it is even more important. I use it to eat, to watch TV or a film, to spend hours phoning my friends, things that I love to do, and of course, to sleep.

Las Vegas (Diego Rosso)

"Ladies and gentleman, Welcome to Las Vegas, city of dreams where you can get rich and have fun! Come to Las Vegas and have a wonderful time in our casinos and in our city!"

I would love to go to Las Vegas some day. Las Vegas is a populous city situated in Nevada (USA) and it is also an international renown major resort city for gambling, shopping and fine dinning. Las Vegas is also a famous place for setting films and tv programs. It also got the title of "Sin City", a nickname setted for Las Vegas because its tolerance for various forms of adult entertainment (another way of saying sex industry... oops, children cover your ears!).

Las Vegas is quite a busy and noisy place because it's a huge and crowded city full of high buildings. At night all the city is light up and it looks amazing.

One of the most famous places in Las Vegas are Casinos. If you thought that the city is crowded, then it is because you haven't yet entered a Casino! Because they are huge and full of people. Casinos are like another world, there you can see all kind of people, rich and not so rich playing together.

Since I was little I had been dreaming of going to Las Vegas one day (and I'm going to go one day I promise!) because it always looked like "funland" and it looks even better everyday. That city is just awesome, you can find everything in there.

If someone go to USA I really recommend that person to go to Las Vegas, even if you don't like Casinos there are a lot of other things you can do there (go shopping, enjoy the view of the city at night, have dinner in really nice restaurants).

All I can do for now is to save some money and be a proffessional playing poker and blackjack, when all that is done ... here I come Las Vegas !

P.S: Enjoy a beatiful image of the city at night :)

A description of a place ( by Sergi Costa)

"Covachos beach", situated in the Cantabrian coast, in the north of Spain, near the city of Santander, world famous for the Magdalena palace, long time ago residence of the king of Spain, is a small beach far from cities and not crowded.

As you can see in the picture to reach the sand it is necesary to go down a fifteen meters high rocky cliff.

During the winter, on rainy days, a waterfall appears flowing like a river accross the virgin white sand to the sea.

If you need a peaceful or relaxing place not far from Covachos beach you can go to "Dunas de liencres" wihch is bigger, longer, and a quieter resort, facing the sea.
In conclusion if you go to Santander, I recommend you to go to Covachos beach.

The internet in our lives (Fran Barba)

Have you ever thought about how the internet has changed our lives?

A few years ago, before the interent, you had to go out of home everytime to get what you needed, to search information you had to use encyclopedias, etc

Now with internet you can do all this at home. You can buy things through intenet and receive them at home, to search information you only have to go to google or a similar web and write what are you searching.

With internet you can also communicate with your friends and family (msn, blogs, facebook, etc) and make new friends, without taking care of the distances! You can meet somebody from USA while your are at home in Spain just sitting in front of a computer with an internet connection !

Some bad things about internet are that if you don't know how to do a research you won't find what you want because there's too much information and that if you publish something in internet protected by a password of anything, it isn't always secure because there's always someone that knows how to hack it.

Match Point (Max Pages)

Match Point is a drama film which is set in the British city of London. In the first scene we can see a tennis match or training and the image is only set on the net, so we can see how the tennis ball goes from one side of the tennis court to the other side. After a few strokes the ball hits the net and this is one of the most important scenes in all the film, because we don’t know if the ball is going back to one side of the court or if it’s going to pass to the other. During the film we are going to be able to find out the meaning of this image.

Then main characters are Chris Wilton, Nola Rice and Chloe Hewett
• Chris Wilton is a professional tennis player but now the just keeps playing tennis as a trainer. After meeting Chloes he started working for his father in law in a big company.
• Nola Rice is an American actress who came to London and was Tom's fiancée. Tom is Chloe's brother.
• Chloe Hewett is the wife of Chris Wilton, she comes from a very rich family.

• Chris Wilton is a very ambitious person, he prefers money than to love. He is scared of having a normal lifestyle without luxurious apartments, a private driver…
• Nola Rice is like the opposite of Chris, she isn’t as ambitious as Chris is, because she can live alone in a small room, and she prefers love much more than money.
• Chloe Hewett is the typical daughter of a really rich person, she doesn’t care about money because she knows she already has it. She really cares about having children and form a nice family.

This is a summary of the film;
When former tennis pro Chris Wilton begins a relationship with shy heiress Chloe Hewett after befriending her brother Tom, he finds his social and financial status vastly improved. However, once he has an affair with Tom's ex-lover, American actress Nola Rice, he realizes that his new, luxurious lifestyle may be threatened. So Chris formulates a devious plan to rid himself of his inconvenient mistress.

In the film ambition is stronger than love and passion because we can clearly see how Chris Wilton prefers staying with Chloe instead of being with Nola. He loves Nola more than Chloe but he can’t live with her and leave Chloe because his father in law gave him a great job and because otherwise he had to start a new life with no money, no job… and for Chris this is a situation he can’t stand, for this reason he prefers to stay with Chloe and keep on with his lifestyle.

I think that Chris is "the winner of the match" because he has reached what he wanted. His life in the future is going to be a simple and boring routine, every day the same, and all this for many and many years. And he will be unable to forget or ignore what he did to Nola and her neighbor. He’s going to have a perfect lifestyle but he won’t be happy, and happiness is the most important thing in life, if you aren’t happy, your life will be horrible.

I think that another ending could be that the ring fell in the river Thames and for this reason the police wouldn’t have found it in the drug addict's pocket. Then the inspector’s theory would have been true and Chris probably would have gone to jail.

I really liked this film because at the beginning it’s a drama but then it changes completely and it becomes a thriller. I think that Woody Allen did a very good job, and also the main character played an excellent role. The story of the film seems to be a very sweet story between two young people who love each other, but then it turns over completely.

"Match point" (Diego Rosso)

The type of film of "Match point" is hard to describe, most of the time the movie looks like a drama but it also looks like a thriller in some parts. The film it's set in London. In the first scene you can see a tennis ball hitting the net and it describes your future can depend on luck, you can win if the ball pass the net or you can lose if the ball falls back.

Chris Wilton, Nola Rice, Chloe Hewett and Tom Hewett are the main characters of the film. Chris is a young boy and a proffessional tennis player who wants to be or do something important in his life. He is an ambitiuos man, so ambicious that he can even kill in order no to lose the good life he had after he married the rich Chloe Hewett.
Chloe is a nice and innocent girl who fell in love with Chris at first sight. She is very friendly and a good woman.
Nola is an American girl who met and fell in love with Tom Hewett, but Tom's familiy don't accept Nola because she is just a normal girl. Nola is also very romantic.

Chris Wilton is a young Irish boy who just arrive to London. He starts working as a tennis teacher but he soon meets a man called Tom Hewett. Chris and Tom become good friends after spending time together and Chris also gets to know Tom's family, specially Chloe, Tom's sister. After some time Chris and Chloe get married but soon Chris meets Nola Rice, Tom's girlfriend .
Nola and Chris started to flirt since the first time they met in Tom's parent's house. Than Nola and Chris had an affair. But one day Nola tells Chris that she is pregnant and Chris thinks about his future: being with Nola would cause being with a girl he like to be with but with no money and on the other hand he could stay with Chloe and continue with his good life.
Later on Chris chooses the second option and kills Nola with a shotgun, stolen from Tom's parents house. Police started to investigate the murder but they can't find any evidence of Chris being a suspect. At the end Chloe gets pregnant and Chris is free of being a murderer.

Chris has two choose bettween two ways of life: poor but with a woman he loves or rich with a woman he likes but not as much as he would have to. Eventually Chris thinks the second option is better for his future.

I think in the film Chris is a winner even tough the ring he threw fell back and not to the Thames river. Police Department can't find any evidence of Chris beign a murderer so he wins the match.I can imagine Chris being really happy with Chloe and having two children: a girl and a boy. The boy would have been called Chris Junior and the girl Nola!!!

I don't know what was in Woody Allen's head when he made this film but I really like how it turned out the final result.

I can imagine another ending, that would be:
Chris got scared of being caught by the police and he ran off and escape to Ireland. Five years later, one day he decided to go back to London. Walking on the street he meets Chloe walking with a little boy: Chris's soon and then he got robbed by a man and after fighting he gets killed by him. Chloe who is near runs after hearing the shot. Later on Chloe sees in the newspaper a photo of Chris dead and being accussed of murdering a girl five years ago called Nora. Then Chloe sits on the sofa and we can see her crying about what had happened.

If the ring had fallen into the river I think Chris wouldn't have been accused of being a murderer but the police would have talked with Chloe's family and they would have discoverd the truth about the relationship of Chris and Nola that would have caused the end of the relationship between Chris and the Britisth "upper class".

Personal opinion:
At the beginning of the film I thought: oh my God! A Woody Allen's movie, because I'm not really fan of Allen's movies. But then I started to watch the film and I was interested in what was going to happen in the film. I totally love the ending, because if Chris would have been catched that would have been a typical ending but he's not and that's one of the coolest things of the movie!
Characters are also really well done and their personalities are also really good as well. It's interesting to see how Chris changes, how he decides to kill Nola, although sometimes is a bit strange movie I think it describes very well how ambition can be such a strong feeling in some people!

Match point (by Sergi Costa)

1. What type of film is Match point and where is it set? describe the first escene.

This film is a thriller and it is set in London. In the first scene we can see a tennis ball hitting the net and while the narrator explains that sometimes in life the ball falls forward and you win and sometimes it falls backwards and you lose.

2. Who are Chris Wilton, Nola Rice and Chloe Hewett?

Chris Wilton – He is the protagonist and he is a retired tennis player. He meets a young rich man called Tom
Nola Rice – She is Tom's girlfriend.
Chloe – She's Tom's sister she ends up meeting Chris, consequently they get married
.

3. How would you describe their personalities?

Chris is an ambitious man , he is not happy with what he has, that being the reason for his marriage to Chloe who has a rich family, but since she doesn’t attract him sexually he goes in search of a more attractive woman who ends up being Nola. After a time he has to take a decission and choose one of the two women, he ends up killing Nola, his lover, and staying with his rich wife ,Chloe.

Nola – She seems to me to be a person with interests due to the fact that she was in a relationship with Chloe’s brother and cheats on him with Chris because she wants to and when her boyfriend leaves her she still maintains a sexual relationship with Chris. Once she was pregnant she wanted Chris to leave Chloe

Chloe – Chloe is a sweet person who loves Chris and her obsession is to become pregnant, she is also a simple, innocent woman because she doesn’t realize that Chris is cheating on her.

Can you summarize the film in few lines?

The film is about Chris, a retired tennis player who works as a personal trainer in London. There he meets Tom, a rich young man, and the she meets his sister Chloe and they start a relationship . From this moment on he will go out with Chloe but will be sexually attracted to Nola, who is Tom's fiancee. Nola and Chris have an affair although Nola says that it can't continue. Later on Chris and Chloe get married and they live together but Chris gets informed that Nola and Tom have split up and decides to look for her. When he finally finds her he reawakens the intimate attraction between them and there new relationship will last for a long time. But when Nola finds out she is pregnant she tells Chris that she wants the baby and that if he loves her he will have to divorce Chloe.
At this time Chris has to make the decision of the love he feels for Nola or the ambition of living with a rich family, and having a great job…
Finally he decides to kill Nola. Firstly what he does is to kill the neighbor and to simulate a robbery and then kill Nola. During the robbery he steals jewelry and a ring. After the incident Chris throws the robbed items into the river but the ring bounces on the railing and falls on the pavement. When the police are going to discover the Chris is a murdere , there is a report of a drug addict wha was found by the revier wearing the woman’s ring. At the end of the film and Chris is free and unpunished.

5 IN the film ambition is stronger than the love and passion. can you explain why?

Ambition is stronger than passion because Chris only maintains a relationship with Chloe because she is rich and has a good job. In fact he didn’t really love her, he really loved Nola but if he had left Chloe he wouldn’t have had a good job and he wouldn't have been rich.

6. Is chris Wilton a winner or a loser of this match? Can you imagine his life in the future?

Chris is the loser of this match because, although he got away with murder, he wil have to live with pangs of conscience for the rest of his life. I believe that in the future Chris will be a cold person with a lot of guilt on his conscience.

7. Why do you think Woody Allen lets chris free and unpunished?

I think that Woody Allen has let Chris be free and as criticism to the society we live in and the justice system, Innocent people get blamed for what the real suspect did, and therefore the system is flawed.

8. Can you imagine any other ending?

Of course, Chris after killing those innocent victims and getting away with it, he would end up killing himself for having a guilty conscience.

9.What would have happened if the ring had fallen into the river Thames?

The police officer would have investigated further and they would have arrested him.

10. Give your opinion about the film and give reasons why you liked it or didn't like it.

I really liked the film because it has a good storyline and Woody Allen knows how to create a rising tension in the film. Also you don’t know what will happen at the end and that’s why you never want to miss a bit of the film and think: O My God what will happen next? I also like the musical pieces (opera) in the movie that rise the tension even more.
